Origin Myth

Legend tells that, beseeched by the hunted whales and dolphins of Oros, the lord of all dolphins-- a trickster spirit as old as the oldest stories-- told them that he'd cast a spell over every vessel in the seas for three days.

The spell, he said, would turn every sailor thrown overboard into creatures of the sea- so they would learn a lesson to live in harmony with the sea.

THE RESULT WAS COUNTLESS SAILING FOLK TOSSED OVERBOARD BY THE ASSAULTING FINFOLK.

THE DOLPHIN KING, TRUE TO HIS FICKLE NATURE, CONSIDERED THESE NEW CREATURES HIS CHILDREN AND BLESSED THEM TO BE AS BEAUTIFUL AS HE WHILE GRANTING THEM THE HEADS AND TORSOS THEY ONCE HAD. HE CONSIDERED THEM A PROPER HARMONY OF MAN AND FINFOLK; THE LESSON WELL-LEARNED.

While their torsos and heads are humanoid, Their bodies appear primarily sea-serpentine. They possess qualities and traits of cetaceans, predatory fish and, rarely, monsters like hippocampi. They are elaborately finned and beautiful.

The humanoid torso has silky scales covering, most commonly, the arms, back and neck.

Their serpentine half will usually begin with scales before becoming more rubbery and cetacean-like closer to the flukes.

Anatomy
Sirens

Though Oleanai are widely regarded as sirens by land-dwelling folk- the more malevolent notoriety of sirens belongs to the Ligeians.

Ligeians are where the siren myths of oros originate and are oleanai with tougher scales and often several pairs of wings. They often possess the poison, bladed tail and horns of Draikormr.

Believed to be a half-breed with Draikormr, though have long-since been their own race.
