draikormr are a race of draconic faefolk. characterized by their tall stature, graceful builds and scale-cover.
They are covetous by nature and are known to collect the world's knowledge and wealth in great libraries and caverns.
Draikormr naturally shed only a few scales at a time. Their scales are made of a hard keratin and possess a small, bloody core that naturally shrinks over time until the scale eventually falls away. Their scales are often collected for their beauty.
Draikormr are naturally venomous. Their teeth, while not snake-like, have a groove through which venom drips from glands in the roof of the mouth and throat at will. It has various effects on other species but their own kind are largely immune to their own venom. Their tail also holds a canal through which venom may flow.
This canal begins in the throat and travels through and over the spine, making wounding the draik sometimes dangerous to the assailant.
Draiks are an average of 8 ft (244cm) tall and live an average of 2000 yrs or more.
Draikormr have a 'dragonpearl'; The source of a draikormr's magical power and Found somewhere within their body. Most commonly the chest, throat or spine.
The colour of one's dragonpearl is said to resemble the colour of one's soul aura and will greatly influence the colouration of their scales throughout their life. Though- it's entirely possible for a Draikormr's scales to develop differently from their dragonpearl. Their long life affords many paths for their soul.
BASED ON THE UNDERSTANDING THAT A DRAIK'S SCALES ARE INFLUENCED BY THEIR SOULS, SIMILAR COLOURED DRAIKS HAVE FORMED CLANS OVER THE EONS WITH THE BELIEF THAT THEY LIKELY SHARE SIMILAR GOALS AND IDEALS. THIS HAS CAUSED MANY AN INDIVIDUAL TO BE TREATED WITH DISTRUST IF THEIR SCALECOAT EVER BEGAN TO CHANGE COLOUR.
THE CLANS ARE ORGANIZED INTO "HIGH HOUSES", ALSO KNOWN AS DRAGONFLIGHTS. THEIR FLIGHTS ARE MADE UP OF FAMILIES AND BLOODLINES KNOWN AS LOWER HOUSES. THE NAMING CONVENTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
FLIGHTS ARE NAMED AFTER GEMSTONES THAT RESEMBLE THE DOMINANT COLOUR OF THAT FLIGHT'S SCALES. [E.G. RUBY FLIGHT, JADE FLIGHT, ONYX FLIGHT, EMERALD FLIGHT, DIAMOND FLIGHT, ETC.]
HOUSES ARE NAMED MORE PERSONALLY, BUT RETAIN THE COLOUR THEME OF THEIR ASSOCIATED MOTHER FLIGHT. [E.G BLUE RIVER CLAN, HOUSE OF WHITE ROSE, HOUSE BLACKTALON]
FURTHER YET, PERSONAL SURNAMES, IF CHOSEN BY MEMBERS OF A HOUSE, WILL RETAIN A SIMILAR THEME TO THE HOUSE NAME UNLESS THE INDIVIDUAL HAS CHOSEN TO SEPARATE FROM THEIR ASSOCIATION.
